Information for new plotholders
The Committee has put together a leaflet to help those new to growing fruit and veg, and to give general information about the site.
New Council Allotment Rules
The Council has now finalised its Rules for Allotments in St Albans. You are encouraged to read and note these, particularly the rule about 50% cultivation. The Constitution of the Association reflects the fact that we have to bide by these rules.
Facilities
There are 53 plots on Burydell Lane – some of which are half-plots – and we currently have a waiting list. There is a communal shed and noticeboard. Currently, there are no toilet facilities. The site benefits from a number of strategically located taps. Limited parking is available in Burydell Lane and plotholders can drive into the site itself between March and October, except during long spells of wet weather. Free manure and chippings are also available as and when we get them.
Security
Like all allotments, we take security very seriously. All plotholders MUST lock the gate behind them whether entering or exiting the site, even if there are others around – this is to prevent squatters, vandals and fly tipping.
Rubbish and composting
All plotholders are expected to compost their plant refuse and to take non-compostable rubbish away with them. Special arrangements can be made if a plot has to be substantially cleared
